    Pilot for the reality TV show The World According To...
  • "The World According To..." conceptualizes the story of Ninjalyn on camera, on blog and on Internet radio.

    Fearsome masks, silken costumes, stylized dialogue, intricate choreography and piquant tones of exotic instruments: these are only a few of the elements that beckon the curious into the mysterious world of traditional Japanese performing arts and theatre. However, there is much to appreciate on an aesthetic basis alone, and many of the themes - clan battles, servant-master loyalty, revenge and justice, conflicts between duty and devotion, unrequited love - are universal.

    Nevertheless, I decided to blend these archaic traditional elements with the post-modern industrial feel of the 80's. The harshly lit face of Nynjalin on the first picture characterizes the glamour and sensitivity of a true Geisha and using drapes with the industrial red brick backdrop amid the warrior costume illuminated from behind on the second picture lands the shot an almost fairy tale like quality. Japanese ghost movies have similar ingredients. Kwaidan is a very good example.

    In addition, I thought of an eclectic representation of the character with a slight tint of post apocalyptic sense. The perpetual cycle between death and rebirth, ancient and modern are incorporated as well to mystify her personality. If we look at the pictures in sequence we can follow the journey of Ninjalyn born from fire reminiscent of a Phoenix bird and at the same time conquering her fears to become a fully-fledged warrior.
